These are detailed accounts of what the trip West was like, including the challenges and hardships as well as the celebrations. The details are what make the stories so interesting--weather, costs of products, and day-to-day realities of life on the trail help history come to life. The excerpts are relatively short, the longest being less than 20 pages, but the length makes them additionally accessible. A more complete table of contents and an index would make the boor better for research. Appropriate for high schools that teach Western migration and Pacific Northwest history.
