Oregon Economic Development Department teams with SMC Corp. to expand facilities in Burns, Ore.


HARRISBURG, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1995--The Oregon Economic Development Department announced jointly with SMC SMC Saint Mary's College

 Corp. the proposed establishment of production operations in Burns, Oregon Burns is a city in Harney County, Oregon, United States. The population was 3,064 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Harney CountyGR6.

 SMC choosing the site were the provisions of road access, lighting, electrical power, water, sewer and other infrastructure improvements. The acquisition of the facility will proceed upon the satisfactory completion of an environmental review. Once the composite and lamination operation is running smoothly, the company plans to initiate production of an all-new product that is currently under development. At that point, the workforce will increase as production comes on line.

John Jaqua, deputy director of the OEDD OEDD Oregon Economic Development Department , noted "The overall result is a cornerstone employer with the potential for as many as 500 jobs over the next several years. These jobs are good for the community, SMC's wage rates for hourly employees, based on skills and experience, are very competitive. We are excited to be able to announce this project."
