Congressman DeFazio's office will help the NRC and Nike select a charity to receive a product donation worth $2,000 intended to increase children's physical activity. The shoes collected by the Oregon delegation will De transported to Fairfax County, Va., to be included in the area's ongoing Nike Reuse-A-Shoe collection. As a program participant, Fairfax County has committed to collect a minimum of 5,000 pairs of worn-out athletic shoes in the coming year. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program recycles 1-2 million pairs of post-consumer and defective shoes each year and has helped donate more than 150 sports surfaces around the world to encourage physical activity among children.
