Nortel has been chosen to upgrade the operator's radio access network and transmission capabilities with 3G UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Nortel's broadband wireless access solutions enable an operator to deliver a broad range of mobile applications, including music and video downloading, content streaming, conferencing, e-mail, high-speed Internet access and personalised content.

Under the terms of a new agreement, Nortel will supply Orange Slovensko with UMTS base transceiver station Base Transceiver Station (BTS) is the equipment which facilitates the wireless communication between user equipments (UE) and the network.
