Oracle and NEC take virtualization crown.

Oracle's said on Monday that its virtualization software racked up the world's fastest performance on an industry standard benchmark.

The company's JRockit- Java Virtual Machine (JVM) outperformed Sun and IBM JVM's on the SPECjbb2005 benchmark. Virtualization software allows one computer to run multiple operating systems at once.

"Performance is critically important to our customers and Oracle is committed to ensuring that our solutions perform to exceptional standards," said Juan Loaiza, senior vice president, Systems Technology, Oracle.

JRockit delivers 2,150,260 SPECjbb2005 bops, running on a 16-socket NEC Express5800/A1160 with a six-core Intel Xeon X7460 2.67 GHz processor, and 256 GB RAM on Linux.

The results are more than two times than the top SPECjbb2005 benchmark results on a similar system using Sun's JVM, and three-times the performance than that of IBM JVM.

According to Oracle, JRockit is a high performance Java Virtual Machine developed to help ensure reliability, scalability, manageability and flexibility for Java applications enabling new level of performance for Java applications.

Oracle has always been known as a fierce competitor, but when it comes to one area virtualization the software giant has stayed somewhat out of the limelight but the new success of the company brings more hope to other companies relying on its capabilities
