News Facts
-- A new version of one of Oracle's application grid products was
unveiled today at Oracle(R) OpenWorld: Oracle WebLogic Application
Grid.
-- Oracle WebLogic Application Grid is part of the Oracle Fusion
Middleware product family and a keystone offering in Oracle's
application grid strategy, an architecture for application
infrastructure that enables greater resource efficiency, dynamic
scale-out, and predictable quality of service for enterprise
applications.
-- The suite includes a new version of Oracle Coherence 3.4, the
industry's leading distributed in-memory data grid solution, which has
improved performance and manageability along with additional language
support.
-- The suite is the latest in a series of product offerings that combine
technology from Oracle Fusion Middleware and BEA Systems. These
offerings illustrate the rapid progress that Oracle is making in
combining market-leading technologies from the two companies into
unified product offerings.
-- Oracle WebLogic Application Grid is the #1 extreme scale-out
application grid solution and is based on a set of industry-leading
technologies including Oracle Coherence, the #1 in-memory data grid;
Oracle JRockit Mission Control with the best performance insight and
JVM; and Oracle Enterprise Manager, the most comprehensive management
tool.
-- Through improved reliability, availability, scalability, and
performance, the enhancements to the Oracle WebLogic Application Grid
create unique and significant business value by providing IT with the
ability to support a growing and highly volatile demand for computing
power.
-- Oracle WebLogic Suite, which includes Oracle WebLogic Server, also
includes Coherence 3.4 and benefits from this version's improved
performance and manageability.
-- Oracle WebLogic Application Grid also includes Oracle JRockit
Real-Time, which can deliver extreme transaction processing
performance to Java applications with its unique deterministic garbage
collection, has zero coding impact to an application when replacing
another Java VM, and includes advanced management tools for in-
production monitoring and application performance tuning with no
performance penalties.
-- Oracle WebLogic Application Grid also includes Oracle WebLogic
Operations Control, which automates the adaptive management of
applications to help enable the highest possible availability and
performance with the most efficient use of data center resource; it
does this by enabling operations teams to define policies based on
application SLAs that govern the dynamic allocation of hardware and
software resources.
-- Today's announcement supports Oracle's strategy of delivering
complete, integrated and end-to-end product suites on an open,
standards-based middleware and database architecture. Oracle's
approach helps customers to simplify computing environments, lower
cost and risk, and provides greater choice and flexibility.
Extending Industry Leadership
-- Enhancements made to Oracle WebLogic Application Grid reinforce
Oracle's industry leadership in application grid products. Updates to
the suite include new Coherence 3.4 capabilities:
-- C++ Support: Oracle Coherence C++ client - i.e., applications
running on top of Oracle Tuxedo -- the #1 distributed transaction
processing platform for C/C++ applications -- are now able to
access data and services on an enterprise-wide data grid as
first-class citizens and leverage the proven benefits of
Coherence.
-- Performance can be enhanced by dramatically reducing the amount of
memory required to perform queries that return very large data
sets. This means that the entire data set pertaining to the query
does not need to be loaded into the grid all at once. The result
is that the query can be executed much faster, driving significant
performance improvements.
-- Significant performance improvements can be achieved by ensuring
that data coming in and out of the data grid does not need to be
transformed back and forth.
