Oracle's Application Solution Centre Selects Eurologic's SANbloc Network Storage System.

Business/Technology Editors

HANNOVER, Germany and BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2001

Eurologic(TM) Systems, a leading worldwide provider of network storage solutions for storage area networking (SAN), original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) solutions, and vertical market applications, announced that its award-winning SANbloc(TM) network storage system has been selected by Oracle Corporation's (Nasdaq:ORCL ORCL Oracle (stock symbol) ) Applications Solution Centre (ASC ASC Ambulatory surgery center, see there ) to be used as part of Oracle's global lab-based program for performance tuning Performance tuning is the improvement of system performance. This is typically a computer application, but the same methods can be applied to economic markets, bureaucracies or other complex systems.  and proof-of-concept testing in applications environments.

Oracle's ASC is part of a global lab-based program for Oracle's Independent Software Vendor (ISV (Independent Software Vendor) A person or company that develops software. It implies an organization that specializes in software only and is not part of a computer systems or hardware manufacturer. ) partners. The lab, based in Dublin, Ireland, focuses on helping ISVs based in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Refers to that region of the world. For example, one might see products packaged differently for the UK, EMEA and Asia Pacific markets. ), build and test technology-based solutions designed to solve business problems. Eurologic was named the network storage solution provider for the center in October of 1999 and has been providing its Voyager series of storage systems as part of the center's test bed.

SANbloc will be the third generation of Eurologic's network storage technology to reside at the Oracle ASC. SANbloc, the industry's first 2 gigabit-per-second fibre channel-ready network storage system, is based on a modular, flexible architecture that enables ultra-high storage performance with very high density. Each enclosure supports up to 14 low-profile disk drives, enabling up to 1TB of data - using 73GB disk drives -- within a 3U form factor, or roughly the size of a briefcase In Windows 95/98, a system folder used for synchronizing files between two computers, typically a desktop and laptop computer. Files to be worked on are placed into a Briefcase, which is then transferred to the second machine via floppy, cable or network. . Up to eight enclosures can be dynamically added to provide up to 8TB of data in less than five square feet, giving users the ability to "pay as they grow."

Eurologic is working closely with Oracle to configure SANs tuned to Oracle ISV partners' applications. Eurologic's SANbloc is the ideal next step due to its high-performance, scalable, fault-tolerant architecture. Phil Miesle, programme manager, Oracle Application Solution Centre, said, "Storage is a critical element of most application solutions, including Oracle database applications. Eurologic's SANbloc Series has demonstrated outstanding performance in database application environments like Oracle's. Also, Eurologic's long-standing focus on ensuring interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  makes it easy for us to work with our own partners in configuring solutions optimized to address their unique challenges."

Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing for Eurologic, said, "We are pleased to be able to bring our next generation of network storage technology to Oracle's ASC. Our continued involvement in the ASC underpins our commitment to working with leading application vendors, like Oracle, to match our respective technical capabilities with both current and future market needs. It also demonstrates our continuing commitment to ensuring interoperability in even the most challenging of application environments."

About Eurologic's SANbloc

Eurologic's SANbloc is the industry's first 2Gbps Fibre Channel-ready network storage system designed to provide the optimum solution for rapidly evolving SAN environments. With a dual-active RAID design and support for 15,000 rpm disk drives, SANbloc offers unprecedented performance for both high-throughput and transaction environments at a highly competitive price.

SANbloc offers industry-leading scalability within a dense packaging. Each enclosure supports up to 14 low-profile disk drives, enabling up to 1TB of data - using 73GB disk drives -- within a 3U form factor, or roughly the size of a briefcase. Up to eight enclosures can be dynamically added to provide up to 8TB of data in less than five square feet, giving users the ability to "pay as they grow," while conserving valuable space.

Through a comprehensive suite of reliability features, SANbloc eliminates any single point of failure, providing continuous data access and protection in even the most rigorous of environments. Key availability features include hot swappable See hot swap. , redundant RAID controllers A disk controller card that supports one or more RAID configurations. Originally only for SCSI drives, RAID controllers have become very popular for PATA and SATA drives. See RAID. , port by-pass circuitry and environmental monitoring; redundant power supplies and connections, advanced cooling modules, and battery-protected mirrored write cache; as well as dual-ported Fibre drives and dual channel Fibre loops.

About Oracle's ASC

Oracle's Application Solution Centre is part of a global initiative by Oracle to provide global lab-based services for Oracle's ISV partners. The program's mission is to help Oracle's ISV partners to integrate Oracle technologies into their products. Centres are located in Redwood Shores, California Redwood Shores is an upscale and desirable [1] waterfront neighborhood on the San Francisco Peninsula in California. It is located on the eastern edge of Belmont, but is actually part of incorporated Redwood City.  and Dublin, Ireland.

The ASC provides a technical service where Oracle ISV partners identify a technology-based business problem, and Oracle helps them solve the problem through a one-week session in the lab. In cooperation with Oracle, partners can design and build a prototype solution using Oracle technology, then conduct performance testing Performance Testing covers a broad range of engineering or functional evaluations where a material, product, or system is not specified by detailed material or component specifications: Rather, emphasis is on the final measurable performance characteristics.  and analysis to find and tune performance bottlenecks in the application.

Through Oracle's ASC, ISV partners of all sizes can cost-effectively leverage Oracle's technology and market experience to configure solutions that provide demonstrated product performance.
