Opus Dei bears watching.Peter Gilmour's column on The Da Vinci da Vinci Surgery A surgical robot for performing certain surgeries–eg, mitral valve repair and laparoscopic procedures–eg, cholecystectomy and gastric ulcer repair. See Laparoscopic surgery, Robotics, Surgical robot. Code ("The ninth sacrament?" April) was interesting, but I was disappointed that he only alluded to Opus Dei's role in the book (i.e., the book's "secret motif") without coming out and mentioning Opus Dei Opus Dei (ō`pəs dā`ē) [Lat.,=work of God], Roman Catholic organization, particularly influential in Spain, officially the Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei. specifically. I would have appreciated an article on the questionable proceedings that surrounded the controversial canonization canonization (kăn'ənĭzā`shən), in the Roman Catholic Church, process by which a person is classified as a saint. Many believe this canonization has undermined the entire validity of sainthood. The lack of coverage on Opus Dei in U.S. CATHOLIC is surprising considering that this cult is so entrenched en·trench also in·trench v. en·trenched, en·trench·ing, en·trench·es v.tr. 1. It seems that the reins of power of the Catholic Church are now firmly in the hands of Escriva's followers. Yet many Catholics have never even heard of this ultraconservative group. Because of this lack of awareness, I was delighted that Dan Brown chose to bring Opus Dei into the light of day in his book. This is why The Da Vinci Code captured my interest; not so much because it explored certain quirky quirk n. 1. It is my hope that the film being made of the book will take this expose to a bigger audience because, unfortunately, many people have been harmed by Opus Dei. Lee Ann Watson Worcester, Mass. |
