LLC - Logical Link Control
, a provider of IT infrastructure services based in Stamford, CT, has chosen Optimum Lightpath as its premier provider of point-to-point Metro Ethernet A metropolitan area network (MAN) that uses a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) backbone rather than SONET/SDH links. Ethernet offers a more economical alternative. In a Metro Ethernet network, multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) may be deployed to provide quality of service (QoS).  connectivity.

Cervalis is using Optimum Lightpath's Metro Ethernet network to provide direct connectivity from its 70,000 square foot secure remote data center in Dutchess County, NY to customers' offices and data centers throughout the New York metropolitan area New York–Northern New Jersey–Long Island is the most populous metropolitan area in the United States and the third most populous in the world, after Tokyo and Mexico City. . This partnership also enables Cervalis to offer its high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue.  data center services, including business continuity/disaster recovery, production data center outsourcing and Internet application hosting solutions, to the more than five thousand businesses in more than seventeen hundred commercial buildings that are already connected to the Optimum Lightpath optical network.

"The most complicated part of delivering the remote data center solutions that Cervalis offers to the marketplace is getting - and staying - connected," said Michael Boccardi, Cervalis' president and chief executive officer. "The high reliability and availability of Optimum Lightpath's point-to-point Ethernet connectivity solution is essential to our business and we could not get anything like it from any other single vendor. Most of the 'traditional' telephone companies in this region offer extremely limited or inconsistent Metro Ethernet services and this partnership has enabled us to get additional customers that we would not have been able to connect to without the Optimum Lightpath network."

Many Cervalis customers - from emerging companies to Fortune 500 corporations - operate in highly regulated industries, such as financial services, insurance, health care, pharmaceuticals and government. With zero tolerance The policy of applying laws or penalties to even minor infringements of a code in order to reinforce its overall importance and enhance deterrence.

for downtime, these organizations require highly available mission-critical data center services. In addition, a host of state and industry regulators are now urging, and in some cases requiring, the development of business continuity plans to ensure the backup, protection and recovery of data on a long-term basis.

"Today, business continuity is no longer a luxury; it is a way of life," said Dave Pistacchio, Optimum Lightpath's executive vice president and general manager. "Cervalis is providing companies with an affordable, reliable and always available business continuity solution and we're pleased to be giving them the Metro Ethernet connectivity they need to reach customers with their services. At the same time, this partnership will allow our current and future customers to take advantage of the operational continuity virtually guaranteed by having a leading-edge remote data center located more than sixty miles outside New York City New York City: see New York, city.
