Unlike the more familiar athletic yoga centers, OYT offers a therapeutic approach focusing on carefully selected and individualized breathing, relaxation, and motion techniques that unlock the innate healing powers of the body. According to OYT founder, Pramila Hemrajani, each program is uniquely designed to address each client's needs, making it accessible to those who would otherwise find yoga difficult or outright impossible. OYT's yoga therapy is open to everyone, but Hemrajani points out that it is "especially beneficial for those suffering from musculoskeletal disorders such as fibromyalgia fibromyalgia

With the opening of OYT, Hemrajani hopes to bring to the West a therapeutic method that has long been available in India and other South Asian countries and that offers new hope to those who have been unable to find relief through Western medicine. "Yoga therapy should be considered an adjunct and as being complementary to traditional medicine, not a substitute," stated Hemrajani.

A native of India, Hemrajani is a published author and researcher and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and the International Board of Yoga. Since completing her studies at the Yoga Institute, Bombay, in 1981, she has earned a degree in social work and is working towards a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA.
