Opnext to Preview Optical Building Blocks for Lighting Broadband Networks at OFC/NFOEC 2005; CEO Harry Bosco to Present During OSA Executive Forum: Driving Fiber to the User.

EATONTOWN, N.J. -- Opnext, Inc., a global leader in high-performance optical components, will demonstrate the internetworking of various Opnext products over 10GbE and Passive Optical Network (PON (Passive Optical Network) An optical point-to-multipoint access network. There are no optical repeaters or other active devices in a PON, hence the name "passive. ) architectures at OFC/NFOEC 2005 in Anaheim, CA, March 8-10, 2005.

In addition to participation in the OFC/NFOEC exposition, Opnext's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Harry Bosco will present on Monday, March 7 as part of the "State of the Industry" panel during the 2005 Executive Forum: Driving Fiber to the User.

Opnext will feature the following in its booth, #1313 during OFC/NFOEC:

The video data is then transmitted to an Optical Line Terminal (OLT). The OLT adds Internet access to the signal and send the video data and internet access through a PON architecture and into an Opnext Optical Network Unit (ONU), via GE-PON optics. The video and IP data is then transferred to a home computer for simultaneous video viewing and internet access.

--Opnext 40 Gbit/s 300-pin transceiver, offers low power consumption of 20W typically, allowing less strain for broader telecom and datacom applications. The product, which offers a high level of integration, minimizing management complexity as well as costs, by reducing the number of ports through its 40 Gbit/s interface. This new product is being launched during OFC/NFOEC.

--Opnext's SFP portfolio, comprising more than fifty products and covering all standard bit rates and protocols, from GbE and F-C, to 155Mbit/s, 622Mbit/s and 2.5Gbit/s for SONET, SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET.

and ATM applications. The distances supported range from very short reach multimode applications, for the GbE and F-C protocols, all the way up to 80km and beyond for the SONET, SDH and ATM protocols. The Opnext pluggable designs have been optimized for cost and performance, can operate across extended temperature ranges and provide advanced real-time performance monitoring capabilities.

At OFC/NFOEC 2005, Opnext will also showcase industry-leading, MSA compliant products and technology developments, which focus on three key areas of component design - lower cost, common footprint, higher quality and best in class performance. These products are based on Opnext's core optics, universal optical subassembly platform and augmented by Opnext's demonstrated expertise in building leading-edge 10G/bit devices and modules.
