OPERA.CA, CANADA'S NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF opera institutions and professionals, has given the inaugural National Opera Directors Recognition Award to J. Rob Collins for his work with the Canadian Opera Company. The new award, sponsored by BMO Financial Group, singles out one opera board director annually for outstanding service. Collins is recognized for a 16-year stint on the COC board, including his work over the past decade as Chair and Board President, and also for his work as Chair of the Canadian Opera House Company's Building Committee. As such, the corporate and mergers & acquisitions lawyer in the Toronto office of Blake, Cassels & Graydon was a key figure in the drive to build the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Collins received his award at a meeting of Opera America in New York on Feb. 21, and will be recognized at an event in Canada later in the year.
