Openly "gay" Catholic deacon.Los Angeles -- In the Los Angeles archdiocese, ordinations to the priesthood are way down, but ordination of permanent deacons is on the rise. Included in the list of permanent deacons is one Eric Stoltz, an avowed AVOW - analog voice orderwire (US DoD) homosexual. Deacon Stoltz gives a glimpse into Cardinal Roger Mahoney's archdiocese in an article in the liberal weekly Jesuit publication America. He writes: "I've seen my friends welcomed into the Church with their [gay] lovers as sponsors. I've seen bishops welcome the gay and lesbian community by name. I've seen gay couples bring up the gifts at the offertory offertory [Lat.,=offering], in the Roman Catholic Mass and in derived liturgical forms, the preparation of bread and wine on the altar and their formal offering to God. It takes place after the gospel and the creed and before the preface. A short psalm verse from Scriptures is appointed to be said or sung at the beginning; it varies from day to day. This is called the offertory verse. procession. I've seen the archbishop of LA process into a church preceded by six gay pride flags." (See "Homosexuals in the priesthood," under Vatican, p. 25) |
