Ms. Kelly's telling life story has captivated people everywhere. Her son, seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, credits his mother as the unsung hero in encouraging him to fulfill his destiny as one of the greatest athletes in history--along with scoring a resounding victory over a life-threatening cancer.

In 1996, Lance was diagnosed with stage 4 testicular cancer. Although the prognosis was grim, Ms. Kelly weighed the odds and focused on the next steps in helping her son make decisions that would change his life forever. She helped research his treatment options and remained with him throughout his recovery.

In April 2005, Ms. Kelly's book, No Mountain High Enough, Raising Lance, Raising Me, was published. In the book she reveals her early life as an impoverished teen-aged mother trying to do the right thing while raising her son. Her life experiences dealing with an alcoholic father, domestic abuse, teen pregnancy, single motherhood and care giving for a cancer survivor are indicative of her strength, positive attitude and will to survive.

Ms. Kelly now dedicates her time to writing, public speaking, assisting nonprofit organizations and fundraising. She was the recipient of the Ericsson's Mother of the Year award in 1999 and was also recognized as one of "America's most fascinating women" in Ladies Home Journal magazine.
