OpenCon Systems, Inc. again distinguishes itself as a true world-class provider of innovative products and professional services to the telecommunications industry by announcing a low cost, IP Tunneling, SONET Access Terminal solution; IP Tunneling "lite".

OCS OCS - Object Compatibility Standard  provides an off-the-shelf OCS-DCC Product Suite that includes software components that are customized to meet all SONET DCC (1) (Direct Cable Connection) A Windows 95/98 feature that allows PCs to be cabled together for data transfer. DCC actually sets up a network connection between the two machines.  specific requirements as specified in Telcordia's GR-253 requirements document. This package is hardware and operating system independent and can be customized and configured for customer specific DCC interface implementations. The OCS-DCC Product Suite includes:
- Seven Layer OSI stack for SONET DCC including OSI Routing

- Short Stack with OCS LAPD, IS-IS/ES-IS, TARP, IP Tunneling

- Centralized IS-IS Routing and distributed CLNP forwarding capability

- IP tunneling module for IP packet relay over OSI network

- TCP/IP to OSI mediation module for TL-1


OCS's Product Suite now includes IP Tunneling for SONET Access Terminal applications. This low cost solution provides OCS' innovative IP Tunneling with LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

The IP Tunneling "lite" product complies with RFC (Request For Comments) A document that describes the specifications for a recommended technology. Although the word "request" is in the title, if the specification is ratified, it becomes a standards document.  2784 and 3147 ensuring interoperability with other SONET NEs that are compliant with these standards. The OCS product can also be provisioned to work with NEs that do not support GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) A tunneling protocol developed by Cisco that allows network layer packets to contain packets from a different protocol. It is widely used to tunnel protocols inside IP packets for virtual private networks (VPNs).  header encapsulation (1) In object technology, the creation of self-contained modules that contain both the data and the processing. Service providers with established but underutilized SONET networks are continuing to source next generation terminal devices that enhance their offering but don't compromise the network.
