Open house at Bay Area oil-timers.

If you like to go old-house snooping, May is your month. Four decorator showcase houses are ready to tour in different Bay Area locations. Three were built in the late 1800s and one is from 1916. Each has many rooms updated by various northern California designers.

Hillsborough. Newhall Manor, an 1890s Tudor mansion, is open April 29 through May 20. It's accessible only by shuttle bus from a parking area in San Mateo at 2000 Alameda de las Pulgas (at 20th Avenue) near State Highway 92. The bus leaves at 15-minute intervals from 9:15 to 3:15 daily and 4:45 to 7:30 Wednesday evenings. Admission is $8 (no children under 8 admitted). Proceeds benefit Coyote Point Museum.

San Francisco. A 30-room 1894 Victorian at 2724 Pacific Avenue (near Divisadero Street) will be open April 28 through May 20. Hours are 10 to 3:30 daily, plus 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Admission is $10 ($8 for seniors); it benefits University High School.

Santa Rosa. An 1869 Italianate house at 535 B STreet is open May 12 through 28 from 10 to 4 daily (to 7 Thursdays). Admission is $8; it benefits the Santa Rosa Symphony.

Saratoga. The house at 18020 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road (State 9), which has the same floorplan as a demonstration house at the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915, is open April 28 through May 28, 10:30 to 4 weekends, 9 to 3:30 weekdays except Thursday, when hours are 10:30 to 8:30. Admission is $8, $7 for seniors (no children under 9); proceeds go to the San Jose Symphony. Design areas include 12 outdoor spaces.
