Only 1 out of 6 blacks with kidney disease know about it.

Blacks are four times more likely to develop kidney failure than whites, reveals findings of the Jackson Heart Study, as reported in the National Kidney Foundation's American Journal of Kidney Diseases. One reason for such a high rate is that earlier, treatable stages of kidney disease go unrecognized. Overall, 20% of African American subjects were found to have chronic kidney disease, but few of those affected--less than 15%--knew so.
