Online Student Registration System At University of Nevada Las Vegas To Use EnterpriseLink's SmartTran Software.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--EnterpriseLink today announced that the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) will implement an online student registration system using EnterpriseLink's SmartTran(TM) web-to-host software. The new system will allow students to register by accessing UNLV's mainframe system directly via the worldwide web through an easy-to-use web browser interface. WorldPort Internet Inc., EnterpriseLink's Preferred Implementer for Higher Education, will be developing the new online web application.

"Providing Web access has now become critical to moving our University systems into the future," said Mike Sauer, Associate Vice President of Finance, UNLV. "Our new online registration system will enable us to serve our students much more effectively. The fact that students will be able to register anytime, anywhere on the Web is particularly important for students who need the flexibility of registering outside the University's normal office hours."

"We wanted totake advantage of our existing student registration system, which runs on an IBM S/390 class mainframe, and make it directly accessible to students via the Web," said Michael McGhee, Director of Administrative Computing, UNLV. "EnterpriseLink's SmartTran software allows us to adapt and extend our mainframe application for web access without altering it. We like the SmartTran approach because it is cost effective and shortens the time it takes to deliver a working web application."

"We've looked at a number of software products and SmartTran allows us to develop Web applications very quickly for our clients," said Albert Lopez, President and CEO of WorldPort Internet. "SmartTran gives us the flexibility we need to rapidly customize mainframe applications for web access without the hassles and delays of programming."

"The forward thinking Universities are rapidly embracing the idea of delivering their critical applications via the Web such as student information systems, library systems, and administrative systems such as Purchasing, Budgeting, Travel & Expense and HR & Benefits," said JC Dorng, President and CEO of EnterpriseLink. "The architecture of SmartTran is uniquely suited to meet the demanding requirements of such applications. SmartTran provides security services, scaleability and performance that are unmatched."
