Online Exclusive: How The West Was Won

Opening the "How The West Was Won" show was Snoop's latest protégé, a rap duo by the name of Oowee. A member of the Murda Mamis killed it on the turntables, while the boys showcased their verbal antics until New York's rising group Tru Life had their turn. Performing their anthem, "Da New New York," Tru Life joined underground sensation Saigon in entertaining the anxious audience until the headliner stepped to the stage.

From the balcony to the back wall of the arena, old, young, black, white, Asian, yellow and everything in between jumped to their feet when the lights dimmed down and the realization that Snoop had entered the building set in. A large video screen panel came down with the words "Snoop Dogg Presents" ushering in a brief skit involving the self-proclaimed P.I.M.P. and two ladies engaging in a little ménage action. As the video ended, the all-too familiar lines "Murda Was The Case That They Gave Me" resonated throughout the arena and Snoop casually strolled out from behind the smoke.

Dressed in a virtual one piece 'blue flag' with an iced-out gun medallion, the musician/actor hit the stage with a live guitarist, keyboardist and drummer - collectively referred to as the Snoopadelics - providing the beats to each and everyone of his hits. A massive Snoop portrait hung in the background as members of his 213 clique and Tha Dogg Pound joined him while his infamous uncle June Bug danced on every inch of the stage. Snoop performed all the classics like "Gin and Juice" until a longtime associate by the name of Kurupt screamed "DPG" on the mic and had Snoop doing the Crip walk. Reuniting after several years, Kurupt and Snoop laid to rest all rumors when Kurupt delivered a crazy freestyle over Cassidy's "I'm a Hustla" beat and Snoop echoed "I'm a gangsta, I'mma, I'mma gangsta" in the background.

But it wasn't all hardcore street material for the night that marked Snoop's first concert at the Apollo Theatre. In the midst of the show, he asked the audience to throw up peace signs as he mimicked the words "Biggie, Biggie, Biggie," while a picture of the Notorious B.I.G. shined in the background and then returned the favor for the West with a portrait of 2 Pac as he began saying the words "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."

Giving a stellar performance with a group of dancers to "Let's Get Blown" over the Ying Yang Twins' "Wait" (Whisper Song) track, Snoop entertained both the male and female fans gathered in the packed venue. Halfway through his show, another old-school legend - Ice-T to be exact - ran out on stage and performed "6'N the Mornin'." Rounding out the evening with other hits like "Beautiful," taking a spliff from an audience member, and flirting with some ladies, Snoop entertained in every sense of the word. Ending his show with the timeless "Who Am I?"
