When 48 fourth-grade students and their teachers from North Philadelphia's M. Hall Stanton Elementary School elementary school: see school.  walked through Independence Seaport Museum's doors on Wednesday morning, May 26, they pushed visitor levels at the Museum past the million mark.

 made the announcement to the students along the Delaware riverfront. "When your group entered the Museum this morning, you represented the one millionth visitor to Independence Seaport Museum The Independence Seaport Museum (formerly the Philadelphia Maritime Museum) is a museum dedicated to the maritime history of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley. It is located in the Penn's Landing complex along the Delaware River in Philadelphia.  since the Museum has been located here at Penn's Landing Penn's Landing is the waterfront area of the Center City along the Delaware River section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is so named since the founder of Pennsylvania, William Penn, was storied to have first docked here in 1682. . That's a lot of people that have come through our doors." To celebrate the occasion of its millionth visitor, Independence Seaport Museum will open its doors for FREE admission on Saturday, June 5. From 10am to 5pm, visitors will enjoy tours of the Museum and its historic ships, 1892 Cruiser OLYMPIA and WWII WWII

About being the millionth visitors, there was a lot of enthusiasm.

"I've been coming here since I was 6," said Zahir Simmons, now 10 years old. "What I like best is that you can learn things that you never knew about." His classmate Kareem Brown Kareem Brown (born January 30, 1983 in Miami, Florida) is an American football defensive lineman for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He played college football for the University of Miami.  especially enjoyed the morning's submarine tour. "We learned about how the sub works, saw the control room, and they told us how far a torpedo can go."

Teacher Tracey A. Sullivan appreciates the range of activities offered by the Museum. "We can use the visit to teach subjects across the curriculum - from math to science to social studies." This was Sullivan's first visit to the Seaport Museum.

Beverly Woodley, the teacher who organized the field trip, likes the hands-on nature of the students' experience. "This is the third time I've brought students to the Independence Seaport Museum. The children learn by doing, and the activities work well with what we do in the classroom."
