One type in hand.
The Spanish Ministry of Defence type-classified the Alhambra Hand
Grenade in 2000, which is in use by Spain and the armed forces of other
nations. Instalaza has recently modified the original Alhambra grenade,
creating a multi-mission version, the Alhambra D/O, in response to new
requirements in international operations. The D/O was recently
type-classified by the Spanish Ministry of Defence and was officially
published in November 2003. The original model features a
mechano-electronic fuze, which allows 100 per cent non-destructive,
in-house inspections to verify functioning and time delay, which are
carried out at two different production phases. The Alhambra D/O has the
same performance and features, but can be transformed in a less lethal
version by simply removing the steel ball envelope. The presence or
absence of shrapnel determines the level of lethality. The D/O model
includes a device that releases the fragmentation sleeve and permits its
extraction. The result is a grenade with limited effect--mainly the
blast over-pressure created by the detonation of the main charge.
