The say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine". So one Marine, Gov. Pete Wilson, has appointed another Marine, Paul Edward, to the California Veterans Board, according to today's announcement by Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Lee Bennett, a former sailor.

Currently a resident of the city of Monrovia in Los Angeles County, Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantry officer, ending his active duty service at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC MCAGCC Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center ), 29 Palms, Calif., in 1992.

He is a decorated Gulf War veteran and, upon returning home from that war, served as a regimental adjutant ADJUTANT. A military officer, attached to every battalion of a regiment. It is his duty to superintend, under his superiors, all matters relating to the ordinary routine of discipline in the regiment.  at MCAGCC. In that position, he was responsible for the administration and training of 7,000 Marines and sailors.

During his tour of duty in the Marines, Edward also served as a rifle platoon commander, a weapons platoon commander and a company executive officer.

Presently, Edward works as a communications specialist in the Los Angeles office of Aon Consulting, an international employee benefits consulting firm.

Edward serves as a technical writer and also assists corporate clients in developing effective communications strategies. He also specializes in financial education and training.

In addition to his work experience, Edward has served as chairman, San Diego County Veterans Advisory Council, where he coined the slogan, "Continuing to Serve."

He is also a former veterans columnist for the Navy Compass newspaper; past chairman of the San Diego Veterans Day Parade; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., The American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. , U.S. Navy League and The Retired Officers Association.

Edward counts as one of his greatest achievements the time when he counseled and worked with a Marine with below-average fitness reports. Edward was able to help the young man improve his performance to such an extent that the Marine was meritoriously promoted, less than six months later.
