On-the-job experience for student.

A YOUNG hopeful from Merseyside embarked on a unique work placement on the set of hit TV show Shameless.

Olivia Jones, 25, from Bootle, became a trainee make-up assistant on the Manchester-set Channel 4 programme.

The on-the-job experience was created by Northwest Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the TV, film, radio and digital content industries.

Project coordinator Daisy Ashton said: "All the work Vision and Media does is industry-led and this placement was a wonderful demonstration of that.

"We have been able to give the Shameless production invaluable on-set support and Olivia was cutting her teeth on one of the most popular North West-made drama programmes in years.

"Getting your hands dirty is the best way to learn in the media industry. Olivia learned new skills every day.

"I am sure she will go on to great things with that knowledge and understanding."
