U. of Oklahoma Press 2009 236 pages $29.95 Hardcover D570 Indianapolis native Kniptash (1897-1987) served as radio operator with the Headquarters Company of the 150th Field Artillery of the 42nd Infantry Division, the famed Rainbow Division. He kept a running commentary on the action as they crossed France leading up to the Armistice in November 1918, and time in the Army of Occupation in Germany until his unit was shipped home in April 1919. His diary was also a sort of scrapbook, where he placed photographs, German propaganda broadsheets, transcribed messages from many British and French sources, playbills from musical performances for American and Allied troops during the occupation, other mementos.
