On the road to enlightenment: Savvy students use the Web before setting foot on campus--and sometimes instead of going to class. (Mexico on the Web).

Learning from your home or office has never been easier. Academic institutions are continually updating their websites, and today's university websites provide an innovative learning environment. Teachers are using the Web to conduct virtual classes and students are participating in discussion groups with classmates Classmates can refer to either:
  • Classmates.com, a social networking website.
  • Classmates (film), a 2006 Malayalam blockbuster directed by Lal Jose, starring Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indragith, Sunil, Jagathy, Kavya Madhavan, Balachandra Menon, ...
around the world. Likewise, for foreigners looking to study in Mexico and for Mexicans hoping to study abroad, the best advice is to head online and check out educational resources on the Web.

It also has one of the best academic websites, featuring the standard university profile as well as exclusive features that will interest students of all ages. Tune in to Radio UNAM, www.unam.mx/radiounam, or check out the latest issue of the Digital University magazine, www.revista.unam.mx/.

Online surveys, UNAM trivia quizes and news forums (www.unam.mx/foros/foros.htm) complement this exemplary site. There's so much to the UNAM website, you'll want to bookmark A stored location for quick retrieval at a later date. Web browsers provide bookmarks that contain the addresses (URLs) of favorite sites. Most electronic references, large text databases and help systems provide bookmarks that mark a location users want to revisit in the future.  the site map: www.unam.mx/indices/mapa.htm

TEC DE MONTERREY

www.sistema.itesm.mx/english/

***

If organization alone were worthy of kudos, this site would win several prizes. There is a link to what's new (translated as "newsness") at www.sistema.itesm.mx/english/new.htm, and the general information page (www.sistema.itesm.mx/info/) has all the contacts needed by prospective students or faculty.

The site provides the basics, but little else. It certainly is not as engaging as the UNAM site. Vistors will find a search engine, information about the university's mission and details about its 'virtual university at www.sisterma.itesm.mx/english/vu.htm. Unfortunately, like many Tec de Monterrey Web displays, it does a better lob of telling you what it does than showing you.
