On my 90th birthday.

   I used to hold
   That thirty was old,
But forty and fifty came fast.
   Definitions of old
   Changed as the years rolled,
Then sixty and seventy I passed.

   I thought it was weighty
   When I reached eighty,
But the years kept coming apace.
   And now I feel mighty
To have reached the Big Ninety
Which is more than most in this race.

   I trust 'twill be bliss
   As I go beyond this,
'Til I pass from this present infernal.
   May my life always show
   That the promise I know,
And look for a future eternal.
