The first electronic stock market listing over 5000 companies. The Nasdaq stock market comprises two separate markets, namely the Nasdaq National Market, which trades large, active securities and the Nasdaq Smallcap Market that trades emerging growth companies.

Located in Times Square in New York City, it occupies the bottom of the Condé Nast Building, located at 4 Times Square.  in Times Square. The opening celebrated the building's 75th Anniversary and its recent recognition as America's Favorite Building in a poll conducted by the American Institute of Architects The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA . On behalf of himself and Leona M. Helmsley, Peter Malkin Peter Zvi Malkin (his Hebrew name is צביקה מלחין , Tzvika Malkhin), (May 27 1927-March 1 2005), was an Israeli secret agent, and member of the Mossad intelligence agency. Born Zvi Malchin in Zolkiewka, Poland. , a member of Empire State Building Company and chairman of Wien & Malkin, rang the opening bell after making remarks linking NASDAQ's continuing evolution in achieving new heights to the world's "most famous office building" becoming even greater--with new state-of-the-art facilities, technologies, amenities and spectacular interiors. Joining Malkin in celebration are (l-r) Robert Zorn, director of the Observatory, Empire State Building; Maribel A. Aber, vice president, NASDAQ MarketSite; Peter Malkin; Martin D. Polevoy, partner, DLA Piper US, LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol ; Harold A. Meriam, senior vice president and General Counsel, Helmsley Enterprises, Inc.; James T. Connors, general manager, The Empire State Building.
