Omnipoint Secures International Roaming in Slovenia.

CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers of Omnipoint Communications (Nasdaq: OMPT) can now use their advanced wireless service when traveling in Slovenia. The Personal Communications Services (PCS) provider today launched its first roaming agreement in the country with Mobitel d.d. Slovenia. This is Omnipoint's 68th international roaming deal.

"Today's activation solidifies our extensive roaming capabilities across the continent of Europe," noted Omnipoint President George Schmitt. "We offer our customers the distinction of being able to take their digital service to just about anywhere in the world. Plus, in many countries we give them a choice of international carriers." The company has agreements with foreign wireless providers throughout most of Europe as well as parts of the Middle East, Africa, South America and the Pacific Rim.

Omnipoint uses GSM (Global System for Mobile) communications, the world's most popular and advanced wireless technology. There are 120 million GSM customers in 120 countries and more than two million GSM subscribers in the United States and Canada. Omnipoint recently opened up a round-the-clock International Roaming Center. North American GSM customers in the U.S. and Canada can reach the center by calling 877-CALL-GSM. Callers from international locations may dial 610-317-7726.

GSM carriers in North America, like Omnipoint, operate at a different radio frequency than their international counterparts. Omnipoint offers customers a choice of handsets when traveling abroad. The carrier sells the Bosch World 718 mobile phone which operates on two GSM networks or in 120 countries including the United States. The less frequent traveler may rent an international GSM mobile phone from Omnipoint.
