OmniVision Showcases Sub-$30 Automotive Camera Module at Techno Frontier Show in Tokyo.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- OmniVision Technologies Wikipedia is not the place for advertisement or self-advertising.

OmniVision Technologies (OVT) is a fabless designer and seller of CMOS image sensors. They have recently acquired CDM-Optics, a company founded to commercialize Wavefront Coding.
, Inc. (Nasdaq:OVTI OVTI OmniVision Technologies Incorporated ), one of the world's leading suppliers of CMOS image sensors A CMOS-based chip that records the intensities of light as variable charges similar to a CCD chip. Although initially used in less expensive digital cameras, the quality of CMOS sensors has improved steadily.

CMOS sensors have advantages over CCDs.
, announced today that it will demonstrate a new reference design for a sub-$30 automotive camera module solution at the Techno Frontier Show in Tokyo, Japan (April 20 - 22). The reference design supports the OV7940, OmniVision's first OmniPixel(TM) technology sensor developed specifically for the automotive market.

With its optimized single-chip CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  design, the OV7940 enables a complete camera module with a bill-of-material cost of under US$30. This offers a significant savings over competing CCD CCD

Applications for the reference design include rear-seat displays, backup cameras, advanced airbag deployment systems, and lane departure warning systems A lane departure warning system (LDW) is a mechanism designed to warn a driver when the vehicle begins to move out of its lane (unless a turn signal is on in that direction) on freeways and arterial roads. .

The OV7940 is built to stringent, high-end specifications of the Automobile Electronics Council's AEC-Q100 criteria encompassing a series of tests including preconditioning preconditioning

, humidity, high-temperature cycle, mechanical, optical and electrical test parameters. The OV7940's high light sensitivity and its operational temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C meet the critical requirements for automotive applications.

The OV7940 sensor has been shipping on a sample basis since its launch in mid-March 2005 and, owing to owing to
