Olympus to Become Sole Distributor of Cytyc's Cell Analysis System ThinPrep in Japan.


Tokyo, Japan, July 29, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Olympus announced on July 27 that it has signed an exclusive distributor agreement with Cytyc Corporation of Massachusetts to market Cytyc's proprietary cell analysis system, ThinPrep System, in Japan. Olympus will launch sales in October.

The ThinPrep System includes the ThinPrep 2000 and 3000 Processors, ThinPrep Imaging System, and related reagents, filters and other supplies, and can detect uterine uterine /uter·ine/ (u´ter-in) pertaining to the uterus.

Olympus aims to ship the system to hospitals and medical laboratories across Japan. The company expects to achieve 3 billion yen ($27 mil) in sales over the next three years.
