Olympus Medical Systems to Market Capsule Endoscope in Europe.


Tokyo, Japan, Oct 17, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Olympus Medical Systems will launch its proprietary high-resolution capsule endoscope in Europe on October 24. The Endo Capsule system is 26mm long and 11mm in diameter, and can capture images of small intestines at high resolution.

When used in combination with the Real Time Viewer The Time viewer is a fictional device often used in science fiction. It is usually a device which functions along the same lines as a television, except that the picture depicts events in another time, either the past or the future. , a dedicated handheld viewer, the endoscope endoscope, any instrument used to look inside the body. Usually consisting of a fiber-optic tube attached to a viewing device, endoscopes are used to explore and biopsy such areas as the colon and the bronchi of the lungs.  enables the observation of internal organs on a real-time basis. Equipped with six white LEDs to enable clear intestinal observation, the system can shoot images at 2fps, send them to the viewer, and remain operational for eight hours.

Olympus Medical Systems expects that the Endo Capsule will contribute to promoting the minimally invasive diagnosis of small intestine. In addition, the company is exhibiting the new product at the 13th United European Gastroenterology gastroenterology
