Olympus Medical Systems to Launch New TUR System.


Tokyo, Japan, Nov 8, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Olympus Medical Systems announced on November 7 that it will bring to market the HF Surgery System, its proprietary surgery system for transurethral resection (TUR), on November 9.

The HG Surgery System combines the company's proprietary high-frequency electrocautery electrocautery /elec·tro·cau·tery/ (-kaw´ter-e) an apparatus for surgical dissection and hemostasis, using heat generated by a high-voltage, high-frequency alternating current passed through an electrode.  knife UES-40S with a special resectoscope resectoscope /re·sec·to·scope/ (-sek´to-skop) an instrument with a wide-angle telescope and an electrically activated wire loop for transurethral removal or biopsy of lesions of the bladder, prostate, or urethra.  electrode to perform a transurethral resection in saline (TURis).

In addition, the system can be used in general TUR procedures (which uses a nonelectrolytic solution) and general surgeries.

The new system will be exhibited at the 19th Congress of Japanese Society of Endourology and ESWL ESWL (Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy)
The use of focused shock waves, generated outside the body, to fragment kidney stones.
