Digital and Imaging Systems Group announced today a 29% price reduction for its CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). Known for its excellent reliability, the CD-R2x4 is a multi-session CD-Recorder, bundled with complete mastering software for Macintosh and Windows. The external configuration was also reduced, from $899 to $649. PC Today chose the Olympus CD-R2x4 as the Best Buy and called it "our favorite" in the November 1996 issue. (3) (Common Data Rate) A standard sampling rate for digital video for 480i and 576i systems. The rate is 13.5 MHz. The CD-R2x4 is one of the quickest dual speed CD-R drives with an average seek time of less than 215 msec. Olympus is also one of the first companies to support Sony's CD-RFS CD-RFS Compact Disc - Recordable Filing System packet-writing software. CD-RFS allows users to drag files from their Windows 95 desktop directly to a CD, or save files right to a CD from any application. CD-RFS makes CD recording as easy as writing to a floppy.
