Olivetti taps Nexus to support peripherals for bank-wide branch application.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1995--Olivetti North America has selected Nexus Software, the leading provider of retail branch connectivity, to support currency dispensers for its bank-wide retail banking system, Mosaic OA.

The partnership, announced here at the BAI Retail Delivery Systems Conference, is expected to expand later to include additional peripherals driven by Mosaic OA. Nexus will develop WOSA/XFS-compliant service providers (software code) for the dispensers, adhering to the industry standard for open retail environments. "We chose Nexus because of their experience in WOSA/XFS development," explained Janice Tabbut, Product Manager for Olivetti North America Banking Systems. "WOSA/XFS is fast becoming an industry standard. With compliant architecture as a foundation, it's easier for us to add and replace peripherals to fit our customers' needs."

WOSA/XFS, Windows Open Services Architecture/eXtension for Financial Services, is a standard developed for Windows-based applications, creating an open environment for existing and new hardware. The standard eliminates many of the device hurdles institutions face when integrating systems and peripherals. "We're moving, like everyone else, away from a completely proprietary environment and into a more open one," Tabbut continued. "We focus on creating solutions for retail banking, and we feel an open environment is best. By utilizing Nexus, we outsource the function of writing and supporting device drivers and service providers, and conserve our resources to focus on the applications needed for retail banking."

Olivetti's Mosaic OA is a client/server application automating all front-end branch activities, including teller and platform functions, consumer loans and self-service kiosks. Mosaic OA integrates with an institution's core processing or host system in either a Unix, Windows NT, Windows '95 or Windows NT Workstation environment. There are currently more than 15 institutions implementing Mosaic OA, including Citibank Domestic, KeyBank of Cleveland and Manufacturers Bank of Los Angeles.
