Seen as Critical to the Smooth Integration of ATM into Legacy LANs

Olicom (Nasdaq:OLCMF), a leading global supplier of high-performance networking solutions, today unveiled the first ATM adapters in the industry to support the ATM Forum's ABR (Available Bit Rate) traffic class for advanced traffic management, giving network managers an important assurance of reliability in deploying ATM in their enterprise networks. In addition, Olicom's new ATM adapters are among the first in the industry to comply with the PC98 and Server98 industry initiatives, and feature full support for Winsock2, enabling LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  applications to take advantage of ATM's quality-of-service capabilities.

Also commonly called a "network interface card" (NIC) or "LAN card," the network adapter transmits data onto the network and receives data from the network.  is an essential component for the implementation of advanced traffic management across the entire enterprise network. Moreover, Olicom's new ATM adapters support both methods of ABR flow control, Explicit Forward Congestion Indication (EFCI EFCI Explicit Forward Congestion Indication

) and Explicit Rate (ER). ABR/ER, the newest and most efficient method of traffic management, has been designed to handle the specific characteristics of legacy LAN traffic, and is seen as a critical capability for the effective integration of ATM into traditional Ethernet and Token-Ring networks.
