 and LL Cool J; and hip hop's influence is clearly evident on the faces, clothing and postures of Shabazz's subjects. He was intent on capturing the inherent sense of dignity the teens proudly expressed.

But as hip-hop was in full effect, so too were massive unemployment, crime and drug use. Few though, anticipated a cheaper, more potent and smokable form of cocaine, which over the course of the decade, would unleash an incalculable wave of destruction to families and communities nationwide that would haunt generations yet to come.

Undoubtedly, A time Before Crackwill stir fun-filled memories of days gone by. With the benefit of hind sight, one might experience sadness flipping through Shabazz's photos while pondering how many of those smiling teens escaped the unanticipated storm.
