bell rang parishioners to worship but the ringing stopped in 1991 when the top five metres of the bell tower had to be removed for safety.

Now members of the parish want to raise money to get the bell ringing again. "It was hoped that we would be able to ring in the new millennium in 2001 using our own bell," said Heather Chisholm, a parishioner at St. James. "But it appears the celebration will have to be delayed." Repairs to get the bell ringing again are estimated at $300,000. The church is raising money for the project and a meeting will be held in 2002 to vote on whether restoration should take place the following year.
