Okidata OkiLAN 510e Is Novell-R NetWare-R 5.0 Ready --Allows for Improved Utilization of Novell NDS-R Technology--.MT. LAUREL, NJ--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998--Okidata today introduced an enhanced version of the OkiLAN 510e, an Ethernet network interface card that provides multi-protocol support for network printing. The OkiLAN 510e, which has been Novell tested and approved for the newly introduced NetWare 5.0, is Novell NetWare ready right out of the box. NetWare 5.0, the most widely utilized network for Internet-enabled businesses, combines the maturity and reliability of the traditional NetWare network with the global reach and open standards of the Internet. The system allows the creation of a network based on Internet protocols, while leveraging existing network investments. "The enhanced OkiLAN 510e provides greater flexibility and control for our customers," said James Upham, vice president, product development, Okidata. "The importance of the Internet in business is making an impact everywhere. At Okidata we are keeping ahead of the curve enabling our customers the widest possible arrayof business printing solutions by allowing the widest selection of current network platforms combined with OKI reliability." Both 10 Base-T and 10 Base-2 hardware support are built-in features of the enhanced OkiLAN 510e. To reduce network traffic overhead, especially over Wide Area Network links, the OkiLAN 510e also supports Novell Link Service Protocol (NLSP (NetWare Link Services Protocol) A routing protocol from Novell that is used in NetWare networks. NLSP is a link state protocol that was designed to reduce the wasted bandwidth associated with the RIP routing protocol. ) to work with Novell Multiprotocol Router 3.1 or higher. In addition, the built-in NLSP support eliminates the need to establish and configure for backwards compatibility with older versions of NetWare. Upgrades to the new OkiView V.2.10 software configuration utility and the new Version 6.05D firmware are available free-of-charge through Okidata's web site, www.okidata.com. These new upgrades will allow users to independently configure the NDS See eDirectory. NDS - Netware Directory Services Tree of Directory Context configuration settings.
