Officials join GDC for groundbreaking.

State and local dignitaries and members of Danbury's. civic, and business communities joined principals of developer GDG this week to officially break the ground for Woodland Hills. The ceremonies celebrated the commencement of construction on the community of 252 luxury townhomes, which will rise on a wooded, 96-acre site at the intersection of Shelter Rock Road and Plumtrees Road in Southeastern Danbury.

Pre-construction sales are scheduled to open to the public in June, according to Joseph A. Novella, Jr., president of the Connecticut division of GDC. Initial prices are expected to range from the low $200,000s to the mid-$300,000s.

"We're delighted to be embarking on this new venture," Novella pointed out.

"We believe it will set the standard for luxury common interest communities in terms of architectural distinction, elegant floor plans, streetscape appeal, and country club-like living."

Woodland Hills is the first major venture in Connecticut for GDC, which formed the Connecticut division in 1999 with Joe Novella, whose family-run company, Novella Development, had a 35-year history in the state.

"We are very focused on quality of architecture and construction, and are committed to creating outstanding landscape designs that are sensitive to the environment," said Martin Ginsburg, GDC founder.

Woodland Hills will feature seven distinctive designs. Built in small, intimate clusters, the two-, three-, and four- bedroom townhomes will boast a number of attractive architectural elements that maximize the curb appeal, including rich materials, multiple gables, bay windows, storybook porches, and patios and decks.

A host of upscale features and appointments are found throughout the elegant interior living areas, including nine-foot-high ceilings, detailed moldings, optional lofts, and frill lower levels with nine-foot high ceilings.

Outdoor amenities include a large swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court, and a tot lot. A natural trail system will meander throughout the community, providing residents with exclusive access to the protected wilderness areas.

Residents will also enjoy residing in a charming New England area, rich with art galleries, vibrant theaters, quaint shops, and sophisticated restaurants. Recreational activities are plentiful, particularly at Richter Park which features 230 acres of parkland and one of the country's top public golf courses.

Candlewood Lake -- the largest man-made lake in Connecticut -- is also nearby, offering 60 miles of shoreline and year-round, recreational activities.
