The Florida Bar The Florida Bar is the mandatory state bar association for the state of Florida. It is the third largest such bar association in the United States. Its duties include the regulation and discipline of attorneys.  Citizens Forum is an advisory group composed of 15 to 18 members from throughout the state who are appointed ap·point

 terms by the Bar president. The forum provides a vehicle for two-way communication Two-way communication is a form of transmission in which both parties involved transmit information. Common forms of two-way communication are:
  • In-person communication
  • Telephone conversations
  • Amateur, CB or FRS radio contacts

 between the state's major citizens constituencies and the Bar's Board of Governors. Its objectives are to inform and educate the public about the legal and justice systems, to serve as a feedback mechanism and a sounding board on Bar plans and programs, and to gain public understanding and support on significant legal/justice issues. Forum membership includes a chair, who is a present or former member of the Board of Governors, 12 to 15 representatives of various citizens constituencies, and two lawyers.

Purposes:

To provide an organization within The Florida Bar which will serve as a forum for discussion, exchange of ideas, research and leadership in those areas of particular interest to lawyers employed by state, federal and local government entities.

    Tax Section

    Purposes:

    To further the tax knowledge and practice of members interested in federal and state tax law.

    To develop standards for ethical and competent Possessing the necessary reasoning abilities or legal qualifications; qualified; capable; sufficient.

    A court is competent if it has been given jurisdiction, by statute or constitution, to hear particular types of lawsuits.

    To further the tax laws, rules and regulations, federal and state, to accomplish legitimate legislative objectives and to improve the administration of tax law.

The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  Congress substantive changes in tax laws, rules and regulations.

    To assist The Florida Bar in the development, preparation and organization of educational programs relating to tax law.

    To keep members advised of significant developments in tax law through various section communications. Organized 1952; $25 dues.

    Trial Lawyers Section

    Purposes:

    To provide an organization within The Florida Bar open to all members in good standing who have a common interest in trial advocacy before the courts.

    To provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas leading to the improvement of individual trial abilities.

    To assist the courts in establishing methods for the more certain and expeditious administration of justice.

    To advise the various committees on rules regarding desirable amendments to improve and standardize stan·dard·ize

    Workers' Compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  Section

    Young Lawyers Division

    Purposes:

    To assist The Florida Bar in its purposes.

    To stimulate stimulate /stim·u·late/ (stim´u-lat) to excite functional activity.

    To arouse a body or a responsive structure to increased functional activity.
     and encourage the interest and participation of division members in the purposes of The Florida Bar.

    To provide a full and complete program of activities and projects designed to be of interest and assistance to members, and to engage in such activities as shall tend to further the best interests of the legal profession.

    To coordinate the activities of division members and to serve as a medium for fostering discussion and free interchange An interchange is a location where two things meet, usually perform some kind of exchange, and possibly go on their ways again. It is most commonly used in four contexts:
    • Transportation:
     of ideas relative to the duties, responsibilities and problems of section members.

    To enhance the image and reputation of the legal profession and The Florida Bar.

    To serve the public, particularly those persons outside the legal profession, through statewide and local community projects qand activities. Organized 1952 (Junior Bar Section); 1966 (Young Lawyers Section); 1986 (Young Lawyers Division); no dues.
