The population was 27,906 at the 2000 census. , Police Department responded to a call of a vehicle stranded in a river. Officers located the vehicle, but they could not find the driver or any passengers. Rescue workers began a hurried hur·ried adj. 1. a. Moving or acting rapidly. b. (See: occupancy) , lying in the icy waters about 150 yards south of the vehicle. Cold water rescue personnel then were able to retrieve the driver. Emergency room physicians advised that if the driver had been in the water for another 5 minutes, he would have succumbed to hypothermia hypothermia Abnormally low body temperature, with slowing of physiological activity. It is artificially induced (usually with ice baths) for certain surgical procedures and cancer treatments. . The body temperature of the driver, upon arrival at the hospital, was 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Officer Cullen's courageous actions undoubtedly saved the driver's life. |
