Today's Office Increases Sales Volume, Services, Staff

With 75 employees, Today's Office Inc. of Little Rock is the largest office products company in the state based on staff size.

When Larry Walker and Marvin Moles purchased the company in August 1986, it was housed in a 16,000-SF Riverdale location and employed about 30 people.

Business volume has increased by about one-third, according to Walker, and the retail store has moved to a 50,000-SF location on West Seventh Street.

Moles and Walker have added a facility to refurbish office furnishings. The refurbishing operation is located in an 18,000-SF facility on Cantrell Road. New paint and fabric are applied to metal office furnishings such as panels, desks, chairs and filing cabinets.

In northwest Arkansas, M&F Office Supply is the largest office products dealer with stores at Fayetteville and Springdale that employ 20 people. M&F has been owned and operated for more than 20 years by Moles.

Outside Activities

Today's Office also reported the largest outside sales staff in the state.

Today's Office has 18 outside sales staffers, 10 of whom sell supplies and eight of whom sell furniture.

The second-largest outside sales staff is fielded by the Little Rock office of Datamax Office Systems of Little Rock. The St. Louis-based company sells office machines and provides services and supplies for them.

Business World Inc. and Copy Systems Inc. of Little Rock each have outside sales staffs of 10 people, placing them in a tie for third.

With six locations, Copy Systems has the most office products outlets in the state. In addition to two stores at Little Rock, Copy Systems has locations in Fayetteville, Camden, Batesville and Jonesboro.

Copy Systems sells and services new and reconditioned office machines such as copiers and facsimile machines.

Only two Arkansas-based office supply companies reported stores in other states.

Stuart's Inc. of El Dorado has outlets in Monroe, La., and Alexandria, La.

David Martin Inc. of Jonesboro operates a store in Memphis, Tenn.

Right Broker, Wrong HQ

Last week, Arkansas Business incorrectly reported that the headquarters for A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. is in New York. A.G. Edwards actually is headquartered in St. Louis.
