The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  Wineries are Now Using Diam

NAPA, Calif. -- Oeneo Closures USA announced today that worldwide sales of Diam have more than doubled since the beginning of this year. Worldwide sales total 170 million Diam corks, sold to over 1,500 wineries. In Australia alone, where screw caps have made such significant inroads inroads

Australian wineries using Diam include Mount Mary Vineyard (whose Diam-closed wines are given the highest ratings by Langton's Classification of Australian Wine), Tyrrell's, and Kooyong. Kooyong winemaker Sandro Mosele, one of the country's most respected winemakers, has chosen to close all his wines with Diam.

"Once again, Australia is setting the trend in adopting the latest in wine closure technology," said Oeneo Closures President Eric Mercier. "Orders are increasing around the globe, and it's a sign that other countries are already falling in step with Australia."

In North America, there are now more than 150 wineries using Diam, including Hahn Estates, Cosentino Winery, and Kunde Estate Winery, with U.S. sales increasing by 166% in just a year. Diam has also taken New Zealand by storm, with 30% of wineries now using Diam. U.K.-based retail giant Tesco, now uses Diam in many of the wines it sells through its "Buyers Own Brand " program. U.K. retailer Sainsbury's, which first endorsed Diam in 2004, continues to use Diam as well, as well as Marks & Spencer. Sales of Oeneo's sparkling wine closure Mytik, produced with the same Diamant[R] technology, are also gaining momentum. Moet & Chandon of France is already using millions of the Mytik closure in Europe.

"The key for Oeneo is its long-held position that no one closure is ideally suited to every wine," Mercier adds. "Oeneo produces its own line of screw cap closures, so it is important that the market has wine closure options to best maintain each wine's flavor profile. We are proud to report that to date, the thousands of Diam and Mytik customers around the world have reported a 100% satisfaction rate."
