Euro MP Christine Oddy is backing a lobby of the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth Bournemouth (bôrn`məth), city (1991 pop. 142,849) and district, Dorset, S central England, on Poole Bay. It has grown since the middle of the 19th cent. to call for an increase in the minimum wage to pounds 5 an hour.
Ms Oddy also wants to see the link between wages and pensions restored and an end to private finance initiatives.
A number of local campaigners, unhappy with Labour's mid-term record, are set to travel down to the conference on Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week. , September 26, to lobby the government.
