Occidental to Sell Durez Phenolics Business.Occidental Chemical Corp., Dallas, has signed a non-binding letter of intent to sell its Durez phenolic resins and compounds business to Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. of Japan. Included in the proposed sale are plants in Niagara Falls Niagara Falls, waterfall, United States and Canada Niagara Falls, in the Niagara River, W N.Y. and S Ont., Canada; one of the most famous spectacles in North America. The falls are on the international line between the cities of Niagara Falls, N.Y. , N.Y.; Kenton, Ohio Kenton is a city in Hardin County, Ohio, United States, along the Scioto River. The population was 8,336 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Hardin CountyGR6, named for Kentucky/Ohio frontiersman, Simon Kenton. ; Fort Erie Fort Erie, town (1990 pop. 23,253), S Ont., Canada, on the Niagara River, opposite Buffalo, N.Y. A number of branch factories of U.S. firms are in the town, which is connected to the United States by bridge. Lumber is a chief industry. , Ont.; and Genk, Belgium. Occidental plans to focus its chemical division on its chlor-alkali and vinyls businesses. Sumitomo Bakelite wants to expand its worldwide phenolics business to include North America and Europe. |
