 6000 system. At the center of Occam's GPON is the Occam Packet Engine, developed specifically to support the massive Ethernet and IP processing that Triple Play networks will require. Using this chip, a single OLT blade switches packets at a multigigabit per second rate, performs deep packet inspection Analyzing network traffic to discover the type of application that sent the data. In order to prioritize traffic or filter out unwanted data, deep packet inspection can differentiate data, such as video, audio, chat, voice over IP (VoIP), e-mail and Web.  on millions of packets per second, manages 2,048 data streams, and delivers hardware-based QoS, security, and multicast management. Occam currently projects the new products to be available in Q1 2008, with the exception of the ON 2445, which is anticipated in Q2 2008.

"Occam's new GPON products should help operators address the growing consumer demand for a better, more individualized in·di·vid·u·al·ize

, 'always on' experience, and give them the flexibility to incorporate both Active Ethernet and GPON architectures into their access networks," said Erik M. Keith, senior analyst for broadband infrastructure at analyst firm Current Analysis. "And with the abilities of the Occam Packet Engine architecture to shape and manage traffic, we believe that Occam should provide the operators with unique tools to deliver differentiated services Offerings that can be classified by type, or quality, of service. For example, a differentiated services network could prioritize real time traffic for a higher fee. ."

"We believe that operators are experiencing increasing demand for bandwidth, driven by HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  and on-demand video and social networking sites that facilitate a massive amount of uploading and downloading

 high-bandwidth content," said Russ Sharer, Occam's vice president of marketing.

"Occam has always been committed to Ethernet and IP, and offers operators the power to handle full line-rate IP Triple Play. Our new GPON offering is an important component of Occam's High Definition Access strategy, a comprehensive approach for enabling operators to meet the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities presented by consumers' increasing bandwidth demands."

Unlike access systems that layer GPON onto older, ATM-based technology, the Occam system supports full line-rate bandwidth for every GPON port simultaneously, both inter-blade and into the backhaul. This is critical for high IP-HDTV on-demand take rates. And, unlike SONET, Occam's highly resilient Ethernet backhaul rings use all backhaul links in normal operation, load-shifting immediately and gracefully on link failure.

Occam's initial GPON solutions will include:

* The BLC 6322 OLT: four GPON ports. A single Occam BLC 6012 shelf will support up to 48 GPONs.

* The ON 2442 ONT ONT Ontario (old acronym - ON is now frequently used)
ONT Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (cisco CCNP exam)
ONT Optical Network Terminal
ONT Ontario Northland Railway
: single family residence, two POTS and four Ethernet ports.

* The ON 2444 ONT: single family residence, two POTS and four Ethernet ports, and 1555 nm RF broadcast.

* The ON 2445 ONT: single family residence, two POTS and four Ethernet ports, 1555 nm RF broadcast, and HPNAv3.

* The ON 2451 ONT: multiple dwelling unit, 4 - 8 POTS ports, 8 - 16 Ethernet ports, 1555 nm RF broadcast, and HPNAv3.1.

Occam's GPON blades and ONTs are integrated into the company's BLC 6000 access system, enabling operators to build cohesive, easily managed access networks. With the new products, Occam merges 10GigE, GigE, ADSL See DSL.

2Plus, DS1, HPNA See HomePNA. , RF video, Ethernet, VoIP, POTS, and now GPON. Everything is integrated, with a unified backhaul, a single set of shelves and enclosures, and managed by OccamView EMS.

Occam's GPON offerings also reflect its focus on simplicity of turn-up and operation. They include centralized, standards-based ONT control through ONT Management Control Interface (OMCI OMCI OpenManage Client Instrumentation
