Objet Geometries Ltd. Introduces Innovative Three Dimensional Printer.

Business/Technology Editors

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2000

Objet Geometries Ltd. (Rehovot, Israel) is introducing an innovative three-dimensional ink-jet printer at the National Design Engineering Show at McCormick Place Coordinates:

McCormick Place is an enormous exposition complex located in Chicago, Illinois.
, Chicago, commencing March 13, 2000. The machine will be called the Objet Quadra. The company will be demonstrating a pre-production version of the machine, which will be available commercially starting in the second half of this year. The machine will be priced at $39,000 in the US.

The Objet Quadra is an ink-jet printer that is connected to a customer's network like any other peripheral device See peripheral.

. The printer prints solid objects by jetting a photopolymer A photopolymer is a polymer which is cured by exposure to light, often in the ultraviolet spectrum. These polymers are useful in dentistry for fillings and in rapid prototyping in the stereolithography and PolyJet processes.  that hardens when exposed to UV light. Objects created by designers and engineers on CAD software are built up layer by layer. The finished product is a rigid plastic material.

The Objet Quadra offers significant advantages over previously existing technologies in the field. The material properties of items printed on the Quadra are unmatched by machines in its class, and are equaled only by industrial systems that cost an order of magnitude A change in quantity or volume as measured by the decimal point. For example, from tens to hundreds is one order of magnitude. Tens to thousands is two orders of magnitude; tens to millions is three orders of magnitude, etc.  more. The introduction of the Quadra marks the start of a revolution in the area of three-dimensional imaging, since it places easy-to-operate technologies directly in the hands of the user. Objects printed by the Quadra require no-post processing and as a result have the fastest process time of any existing technology. A part printed on the Objet Quadra requires no manual shaping of any kind.

The significance of the Objet Quadra is that the technological platform will provide the basis for further developments in the area of three-dimensional printing for years to come. Additional materials and materials of different colours are already being developed by Objet. Flexible or rubber-like materials could be jetted by the Quadra after a simple change of the cartridge in the machine, similar to conventional printing technologies.

, from automobile companies to cellular telephone companies, and many other industries in between.

The Chairman of Objet, Effi Ephrath, describes the new printer as clean, quick and cost effective, providing designers with the opportunity to check out their digital designs early on in the product design process. He believes that within a relatively short time, three-dimensional printers will become an indispensable tool for designers, in much the way that plotters became standard equipment for them over the past few years."
