Objectivity Releases the Industry's Most Scalable Data Management Solution; New Objectivity/DB Release 9.0 Underscores Reliability, Scalability and Availability.

Responding to the very large database (VLDB) market need for scalability, Objectivity, Inc., the leader in real-time data management solutions for complex inter-related data, today announced general availability of the new Objectivity/DB(R) Release 9.0. Objectivity/DB 9.0 represents the first commercially available database that is scalable for Exabyte-level VLDB customers who are building today's mission-critical data fusion applications for finding the "needle in the haystack."

Objectivity markets Objectivity/DB to ISVs, OEMs and end-users for real-time processing of complex information, document and process management, scientific computing and complex defense and security applications. Objectivity's customers develop solutions built on the Objectivity/DB platform for the government, telecommunications, Internet infrastructure, manufacturing, biotechnology, financial services, scientific and IT markets. Objectivity/DB 9.0 intrinsic features include its scalability, high availability, performance, and interoperability supporting customers with a business need for high performance and complex data relationships.

Success in the VLDB Market

Objectivity is experiencing significant momentum in several very large database markets where there is an enormous amount of complex information that needs to be managed. For example many of Objectivity's government customers are performing data fusion from geospatial and sensor data. Others are storing and correlating vast amounts of disparate information such as text, images, video and voice for investigation or security and intelligence applications. Scaling to Exabytes

"Objectivity/DB 8.0 enabled us to establish our credentials in the Very Large Database world when we broke through the Petabyte barrier and supported ingest rates of over 32 Terabytes per day," said Leon Guzenda, chief technology officer. "With the Objectivity/DB 9.0 platform we will support Exabytes of data and ingest rates in excess of 100 Terabytes per day. Availability Features

The new features and benefits of the new Objectivity/DB 9.0 release include:

--New Database and Container Catalog -- Enhances the performance and scalability of database and container catalogs. The new Objectivity/DB container files enhances scalability enabling an individual database to be distributed rather than the federation and of further significance developers can apply security levels to individual containers.

--64-Bit Memory Address Support (Altix and Solaris) -- Enables developers to create and run Objectivity/DB applications using 64-bit virtual memory addressing on platforms that support the creation and execution of 64-bit applications (e.g., the OS supports 64-bit compilers and provides 64-bit runtime libraries).

--Automatic Resync of Replicated DB -- Resynchronizes replicated databases at the time a database is opened. If the current quorum set does not include all of the images, a check may be made to see if any of the excluded images are now accessible, and if so, the quorum will be automatically renegotiated to include the newly accessible image.

--Client Side Listener -- Provides developers with access to internal information that could be used for performance tuning. This information might also be used to control application flow.

--Page Conversion Utility -- This new tool assists developers converting existing federations to the format of a specific machine architecture.

--Multiple Page Size Support -- Allows developers to specify the storage page size for individual databases. Storage pages are the units of transfer to and from memory across the network. Objectivity/DB allows developers to specify different page sizes thus enhancing the capability to accommodate different kinds of data from disparate databases.

--Tutorials (Windows) -- A set of on-line lessons and exercises to enable new users to quickly begin writing applications.

--UNIX Samples -- A set of sample C++ and Java applications showing how Objectivity/DB can be used in particular application areas or how particular features of the Objectivity/DB platform can be used.

--High Availability (HA) API Extensions -- These are API enhancements to improve the management of replicated databases. These improvements extend functionality while improving ease-of-use of the High Availability feature.
