Objection to "honest look at Abe" book review.

The comments made about the book The Real Lincoln (March 20 issue) do not meet with your normal high academic standards. The obvious bias in the article is clearly shown by the use of the moniker (1) A name, title or alias. See alias.

(2) A COM object that is used to create instances of other objects. Monikers save programmers time when coding various types of COM-based functions such as linking one document to another (OLE). See COM and OLE.
, "The War Between the States,"--a clear term of sympathy for the Confederacy Confederacy, name commonly given to the Confederate States of America (1861–65), the government established by the Southern states of the United States after their secession from the Union.  and anger toward the North. The war's official name, by those who were involved, was the War of the Rebellion. The neutral term for it is the Civil War.

, the respect he had earned from the Civil War would likely have translated into a far better result than occurred. After all, he was the one who pushed the idea of not seeking retribution against Confederates, except against Jefferson Davis.

I agree that the Civil War began the slippery slide against state rights, but decades of 20th century liberalism are the culprit--not Lincoln. I always find it odd that those who criticize Lincoln's actions in the war never have the answers for how the Union could be preserved in the face of secession.

Lincoln may not have been perfect as a leader, but don't put the onus of where we are today mainly on his shoulders. All this book does is seek to join the growing liberal thought of trashing all American heroes.
