ObjectStream, NETMANSYS to Provide Industry's First High Performance CMIP Mediation Solution for TL1, ASCII Network Elements.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1997--

Telecommunications Industry's Leading CMIP (Common Management Information Protocol) Pronounced "c-mip." A network monitoring and control standard from ISO. CMOT (CMIP over TCP) is a version that runs on TCP/IP networks, and CMOL (CMIP over LLC) runs on IEEE 802 LANs (Ethernet, Token Ring, etc.).  Agent Provider, NETMANSYS, Is First To Integrate With ObjectStream Mediator mediator n. a person who conducts mediation. A mediator is usually a lawyer, or retired judge, but can be a non-attorney specialist in the subject matter (like child custody) who tries to bring people and their disputes to early resolution through a conference.  For Managing Multi-Vendor CMIP Networks

ObjectStream, Inc., and NETMANSYS Inc., today announced an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  agreement for seamlessly integrating ObjectStream's dynamically configurable mediation mediation, in law, type of intervention in which the disputing parties accept the offer of a third party to recommend a solution for their controversy. Mediation has long been a part of international law, frequently involving the use of an international commission,  technology into the NETMANSYS CMIP mediation product.

NETMANSYS will be the telecommunications industry's first software provider to offer turnkey See turnkey system.  CMIP mediation solutions capable of supporting SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. , TL1 and any other ASCII-based network elements.

NETMANSYS' FastBench Agent Builder is being integrated with ObjectStream Mediator, ObjectStream's flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation.  that performs high-speed message translation between multi-protocol network elements and agents, element or network management systems. When combined, both products give customers a turnkey, multi-vendor CMIP solution that can significantly shorten the time to develop and deploy CMIP-based management systems for supporting network elements using any kind of ASCII protocol The simplest communications protocol for text. It transmits only ASCII characters and uses ASCII control codes. It implies little or no error checking. , including all versions of TL1.

With NETMANSYS' existing suite of CMIP solutions, telecommunications providers now can manage multi-protocol networks using any combination of the three most widely deployed broadband network element protocols: TL1, ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers.  and SNMP.

The NETMANSYS solution gives telecommunications providers three critical benefits for managing TMN (Telecommunications Management Network) A set of international standards for network management from the ITU. It is used by large carriers such as Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.  CMIP-based networks:

1) The ability to simultaneously manage network elements using any version of ASCII and TL1. When combined with the NETMANSYS suite of software products, telecommunications providers can manage CMIP-based networks using TL1, ASCII and SNMP protocols.

2) The ability to speed deployment of new network elements or TL1 software revisions without disrupting service on the network. The ObjectStream product gives telecommunications providers dynamically configurable mediation, which means, for example, being able to introduce changes to a network element-like software revisions-without taking the system down.

3) The ability to introduce a turnkey CMIP mediation solution without affecting message throughput. ObjectStream Mediator, which is being integrated into the next-generation element management system of Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., is capable of simultaneously supporting thousands of connections to network elements without sacrificing speed or performance.

CMIP is an ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  standard for element and network management systems. TL1 is the most widely deployed protocol for SONET network elements. Communication between CMIP-based management systems and TL1 equipment requires real-time translation through mediation and agents. The partnership between ObjectStream and NETMANSYS gives telecommunications providers the ability to deploy a complete, multi-vendor CMIP mediation solution within days or weeks, compared to months.

"The integration between NETMANSYS and ObjectStream enables us to provide our customers with the mediation they need for an industry in transition," said Alain Mouttham, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. , telecommunications providers need the flexibility and performance our mediation solution offers. NETMANSYS is the first in the telecommunications industry to offer multi-protocol support through a standards-compliant CMIP solution."

FastBench is an advanced, complete suite of development tools designed to ease the implementation of mediation and agent projects. FastBench supports the development effort throughout the development process, from initial GDMO/ASN.1 specification, automatic generation of Agent/Mediation, through testing and final deployment. The product includes built-in System Management Functions (SMF (1) (Standard Messaging Format) An electronic mail format for Novell's MHS messaging system. The application puts the data into this format in order to send an e-mail message. ), such as object and state management, relationship changes, alarm reporting, metric objects and attributes, and Event Report Management.

"Telecommunications providers across the world are actively seeking solutions to the problem of building and operating multi-vendor, multi-protocol element and network management systems," said Jack Harrington, President and CEO of ObjectStream. "The agreement between ObjectStream and NETMANSYS helps move CMIP-based management systems closer to fully supporting a multi-protocol environment."

ObjectStream Mediator performs high-speed, multi-protocol message translation between network elements and their element management system, or between element and network management systems. Utilizing ObjectStream's groundbreaking Rosetta technology, a protocol-independent description of the network resource is created. This unique description is used for executing real-time message translations.
